Mikumi National Park
Safari Highlights:
Get your camera ready for rare
close-ups of eland - the world’s
largest and most powerful antelope.
The Mkata Floodplain in Mikumi Park
is perhaps the most reliable place
in Tanzania for sightings of this
great beast.
Capture astounding images of the equally impressive, if not so
large, greater kudu and the rare sable
antelope which haunt the miombo-covered
foothills.
Watch while giraffes forage and
elephants take shade in the isolated
acacia stands which fringe the Mkata
River. Surprise the lion king,
taking stock from his vantage point
in the trees or on the flattened top
of a termite mound.
Take time to spot the magnificent
Bateleur eagle, the multi-hued, lilac-breasted
roller and the resident yellow-throated longclaw
- to mention only 3 of the 400 bird
species recorded in this park. Don’t miss the
hippo pools just north of the main
entrance gate.
Gaze across the open horizons and
abundant wildlife of Mikumi, the
most easily accessible of Tanzania’s
southern parks and good for game
viewing all year round.
Choose between two lodges, two
luxury tented camps and three
campsites for your overnight in
Mikumi National Park.
